Your questions, answered
The things people check before they file, in plain English.
What is a confirmation statement?
Once a year, Companies House asks every company and LLP to confirm the details on its public record are still correct: who the directors or members are, where the company is based, its SIC codes and, for companies, its shareholders. It isn't about money or tax and there are no sums to do. You check what's on record, correct anything that's changed, and confirm.
When is my confirmation statement due?
It runs on its own clock, separate from your accounts. Your statement date is the anniversary of the day your company was formed (or of your last statement), and you then have 14 days to file. So a statement date of 15 March means filing by 29 March. You can file on or after the statement date, not before. Search for your company above and we show both dates from the register.
What does it cost?
Two numbers, never blended: our service fee, and the £50 Companies House filing fee, which is the government's charge and is the same whoever files for you. If you've already paid the £50 within your current payment period, we check with Companies House first and drop the fee, so you never pay it twice.
What if my company's details have changed?
Most changes are made on the statement itself: SIC codes, shareholders, share capital and the registered email address all update as part of the filing. A director change is a separate filing; if your officer list needs fixing first, you can file that mid-journey and come straight back to the statement.
What happens if I file it late?
There's no automatic fine like late accounts, but it is a criminal offence for the company and its officers, and Companies House can start striking the company off the register, which ends with the company being dissolved and its assets passing to the Crown. If you're late, file as soon as you can; the register updates within a day or so of acceptance.
Do LLPs file confirmation statements too?
Yes. Every LLP must confirm its record annually, the same anniversary-plus-14-days clock. Most filing services stop at Ltd companies; we file confirmation statements for LLPs as well, with your designated members confirming the details.
